Frequently Asked Questions

Here in New Zealand Doulas aren't overly common so it's only natural to have questions

What is a doula

A birthdDoula is a trained professional providing continuous physical, emotional & informational support to a family before, during and shortly after childbirth.

As a doula on your birth team I will also support the others that my be part of your family or birth team, your partner, parents & in-laws, older children or siblings. These crucial team members are on their own emotional journey & I can offer them support too.

Doulas are not medically trained & do not preform medical tasks. A Doula provides support in an emotional & practical way

A Doula does not make decisions for you but helps to support you to access the information that you may need to make your own informed decisions.

What area do you cover?

I am based in Morrinsville, Waikato. I have supported families who are wishing to birth at River Ridge East Birth Centre, Waterford Birth Centre, Waikato Hospital & in Home Birth settings.

I am happy to travel within the Hamilton & Waikato region. If I am required I am also happy to travel to the Coromandel area - please get in touch.

When should I book?

I suggest booking when you feel comfortable that this is a good option for your birth

However the earlier you book the sooner you can use my services to help you in the preparation for your birth

I have a midwife do I need a Doula?

Midwives are medically trained professionals. Doulas are not medically trained & do not preform medical tasks. A doula provides support in an emotional & practical way.

A doula does not make decisions for you but helps to support you to access the information that you may need to make your own informed decisions.

Do you have payment options?

Yes, I require a deposit on booking and the balance to be paid prior to 37weeks. This can be paid in instalments throughout your pregnancy.

 What training do you have?

I have completed my Birth Doula & Postpartum Doula training with DONA international in October 2020

I have completed a Healing Birth Practitioner Training with Carla Sargent of Healing Birth in July 2021

How does it work?

I offer a free initial consultation. This is a time to meet each other, discuss the options in more detail & ensure we both feel that we can work together.

When it comes to your labour & birth there isn’t a time limit on the care a Doula provides. It is continuous care throughout your labour & birth, from the time that you need me until the time that you feel comfortable for me to go (approx. 2hours after birth)
